• In 'Privacy' area put the check mark for 'Store and display a list of recently opened files'.

• Click 'Start' button.
• Select 'Settings'.
• Select 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties'.
• Open 'Start menu' tab.
• In 'Privacy' area put the check mark for 'Store and display a list of recently opened files'.
How to enable Recent Documents on Start Menu in Windows XP:
