Why you should clean recent documents list
When you open documents such as MS Word and Excel files, pictures, etc, Windows always saves documents and files you opened into 'My Recent Documents' folder. Windows Start menu stores a list of the recent documents that you have opened or used. Recent documents list provides a quick way to reopen any document. But it could compromise your privacy as any user who has access to your PC can easily reopen any of your documents especially if you share computer with others.
Another reason to clean recent documents list is to improve computer performance. After a while recent documents list can get quite long and could slow down your computer performance especially on computer startup. By default only the latest 15 entries are visible on the Start menu but actually recent documents folder contain more.
Even if you clean recent documents from Start Menu, your computer still saves recent documents. If you concern about your privacy, you should disable recent documents history. Once you disable recent documents, files you open will not be added to recent documents list.
